Breathing new life into your favourite items can be both satisfying and creative. Recently, I decided to transform an antique ceramic footed bowl that previously used for flower arrangements into a charming candle. This simple yet effective hack totally transforms my coffee table. In just under 30 seconds, my bowl became a glowing centrepiece and I'm excited to share how you can do the same.
This post will guide you step-by-step through the process, showcasing how a quick and easy hack can yield beautiful results.
Selecting the Right Bowl
For this project, I chose my favourite antique footed bowl (this one is part of next Antique Collection that launches on Sunday 6th July at 7pm). When selecting your own vessel, consider its size and shape to ensure it can safely accommodate the candle sand.
Look for a bowl that resonates with your personal taste. Unique pieces not only add character to your home but also serve as great conversation starters.

Candle Sand
I never knew candle sand existed until I happened to stumble across it one day and now I'm hooked!
So, what is candle sand? It's a powdered blend of wax, basically tiny little balls of wax (hence the name 'sand'). It's better than normal wax as you don't need to melt it, you simply just pour it into your vessel.

Quick and Easy Transformation Steps
Fill the bowl
Pour the candle sand into the bowl until it reaches your desired height. Keep in mind the size of the bowl and the look you want to achieve.
Insert the wick
Most candle sand comes with several wicks. They may all be the same length but you can easily cut them down to suit your vessel if needs be.
Set the mood
Enhance the ambiance by adding a few drops of essential oil to the sand. A calming scent like lavender or a refreshing one like citrus can create a pleasant atmosphere when the candle is lit.
Light it up
With your wick positioned and the candle sand settled, it's time to light the candle.

In less than 30 seconds, the transformation is complete. I placed my new candle on the coffee table and it quickly became my new favourite addition!
Tips for Future Candle Projects
Experiment with Sizes and Shapes
Feel free to use various bowls from your collection. Experiment with different shapes and sizes for a range of candle displays. A larger bowl can be perfect for centrepieces with several wicks.
Gift-Worthy
These transformed bowls make great presents! Customise your candles with the recipient's favourite scents to create a thoughtful, handmade gift.
So why wait? Dust off that antique bowl and make yourself a lovely new candle!
